John O'donohue — The Inner Landscape of Beauty

The Irish poet and philosopher John O'Donohue was beloved for his book Anam Ċara, Gaelic for "soul friend," and for his insistence on beauty as a human calling. In one of his last interviews before his death in 2008, he articulated a Celtic imagination about how the material and the spiritual — the visible and the invisible — intertwine in human experience. His voice and writings continue to bring ancient mystical wisdom to modern confusions and longings.

I was transported by a number of his thoughts such as, 

"the visible world is the first shoreline of the invisible world...And connecting to the elemental can be a way of coming into rhythm with the universe."

and

"And I think that one of the reasons that so many people turn away from religion in our times is that the God question has died for them, because the question has been framed in such repetitive dead language. And I think it's the exciting question, once you awaken to the presence of God."
