This morning I won something greater than a trillion dollars. Something greater than any gold value, or monetary worth.
The Universe is Living, it is Alive.
Love is in all ways Alive. Even after Death.
I hadn't walked in a while. And I decided to just today, instead of indulging my usual routine. I met with older friends who walk the trails whether I decide to join or not. During our walk, I found a page from a book laying on the ground. Compelled, I picked it up. I made no mention of it to my buddies, who saw me stop to pick up the paper.
As we continued further along our walk, I saw another piece of paper torn from some book. They commented, "oh, wow- look at that." I told them I was endeavoring as an architect of my own narrative.
We walked to a local grocery store- these are retired folk who enjoy skimming the perimeter of these kind of places with the hopes they'll find money or trinkets. It's a game they started, and at the end of the year they see who found the most money.
I told Jeff, the eldest among us, that the point of the game is to receive when you aren't looking. I told him I'd wager that he finds more when he isn't trying.
Still, he insisted we go into the grocery store and look near the change machine to see what coins may have been left behind. The whole time, I had these torn papers in my hand. I followed him in and decided to read a line or two.
This is what I read as we were walking down the aisle of the grocery store-
"She wore a turban of beautiful pale mauve silk,"
And- just as I read that- I bumped into a woman wearing a pale mauve head scarf. She was an employee working there. She had no clue what I just read, neither did Jeff.
I paused a minute, and tapped Jeff on the arm.
"Do you see that woman there? What color is her head scarf?"
And proceeded to tell him,
"Look at what I just read."
"Oh, wow!" He exclaimed. "Well you ought to keep reading!"
I chuckled softy and we proceeded to walk out towards the store to rendezvous with Will, who was still out there scanning the perimeter.
I continued on as Jeff suggested, quickly skimming the next lines my eyes might pick up. It happened in reverse order... First the part that was highlighted...
"WWEE ARRE HHERRE!"
and then,
"In her hands was a crystal ball into which she was gazing raptly."
"They're talking about a crystal ball Jeff!"
He didn't seem to hear me. We just kept walking. We ran into Will, who came up to us with a golden trinket-
"Look what I found!" and he flipped over, to reveal a painted butterfly.
That was the end of our walk. We parted ways, and as I walked home I began to think on my experience.
I kept thinking, this is more valuable than gold. This is greater than winning the highest lottery man can win.
In that precise moment, Love, God, Source, Universe- revealed itself as Living. Perfectly orchestrated.
At times, I find I am rather depressed living a solitary life in a busy city- depressed by the monotony- I am never weary of God and the many blessings in my life. I am only made weary by the business of the city, by the routine, by the default fear and anger, by the constant surface level existence where even those faces that are God move about in ignorance. I am no greater, clearly, I am often in my own ignorance- perhaps even now, as I share this weariness in my post.
But this profound act of Love, it is a continual source of renewal, regeneration, hope, clarity... It is always moving, even though, I am only made more internalized as a consequence. At times it is bitter sweet, if only the world traded currency in this way- where we operated from this deeper existence in tune with this living intelligence.
But even this, is a mark of my own limitations and erroneous beliefs. In either way, that I did nothing but go for a walk, and receive this most precious gift- the lottery of all lotteries- where that surface level existence was shattered in a moment to reveal Divine Orchestration.
....
Now that I'm home, I asked AI to find the book using some of the lines that I've found- and this is what was apparently gifted to me by a loving Universe...
The quote "The woman looked up from the ball, and when she saw them she got up and curtsied deeply. Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who dropped small curtsies in return..." is from A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle.
This passage occurs when the children meet the Happy Medium, a celestial being who shows them visions using a crystal ball. The three Mrs. Ws—Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which—are powerful, otherworldly guides who assist the protagonists on their journey.
