Meditations on an Apple — Janet Brown

Post by Welles »

My favorite form of meditation is pondering. I'll be deeply into the throes of thinking about something or an idea and how it connects to all the rest of existence when, in a moment of inner quiet, 'I' stop and the universe takes over. It gives new perspectives and makes new connections that were beyone me just moments before. A personal consequence is the excitment of illumination.

Janet Brown has written an essay that struck me as exactly this sort of meditation. As I thought about her words and thoughts my heart opened. I didn't really get any big instant burst of inspiration (a bunch of little ones, though) but I'll save up this moment for when I need the extra heart energy.

Wow  After reading this article one cannot help but be mindful of the magnificent way our food connects us to life and life in the most surprising of places too. I will never again look at an apple in the same blank way again, in particular a Ruby Red Rome apple that made its way to the US years ago blossoming along the banks of the Ohio River. May I always be truly thankful for the little blessings gifted to me by living things of every size and description contributing mightily to my welfare.
Thanks Welles!
