Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
Has anyone woken up in the morning with an odd song stuck in their head? This has happened to me twice now and both times it was a song I had heard before but didn’t know very well and didn’t listen to on a regular basis, in fact both of the songs in question I haven’t heard in years. The first song was “Get on Your Feet” by Gloria Estefan and the second song was “Think” by Aretha Franklin. When I wake up in the morning I only have the first part of the lyrics stuck in my head probably because it’s the only part I know , but from there I usually look up the rest of the song. So my question is, is this a normal psychological thing or is this a way to convey information to my stubborn confused head?

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
Hi Nikki,
I often get bits and pieces of messages in songs. Sometimes it occurs spontaneously with what is happening at the moment and other times I wake up as you did with a song in my head. I usually look up the whole song lyrics, once again as you did, and ask for help discerning how it applies to my life and what meaning I am to derive from it.
Sometimes too I have found light hearted amusement in the songs lyrics that come through and understand them as a private joke between my angels and myself. Many people would doubt and say it was all me..yet I know how daff I am where music is concerned. I really don't have a mind or memory for it at all. Yet songs from many genres, spanning decades, pop into my conciousness out of the blue and are precisely accurate for the moment at hand.
So I go with the flow..enjoying the song as well as the message it entails.
Love,
Sandy

Hi Nikki,
I am with Sandy, it is definitely some insight just for you. I wouldn't even worry too much about the rest of the lyrics, just the ones that pop in your head. I get them in the morning but I also get them during the day too. I always find them helpful. So regardless of where they come from they are in my opinion worth paying attention to.
Love,
Michelle

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
At a time when I experience a lot of stress, I have when I get up a song in my head. I don't like it because it repeats itself all day, and makes me very uneasy. My blood pressure is on those days a little to high too. Sometimes it takes days before it is gone. I always think that I should learn something from the song.

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
Hi Jeanne,
Your post reminded me of a happy memory of long ago. Years ago we took my kids to an amusement park for the day. There was a ride there that floated you down a long dark channel and on both sides were little figures in costume and settings from around the world singing the song, "It's a Small World After all." The song played the whole time and the little figures sang it in many different languages but what you later found happening was that the song became stuck in your head for weeks. I guess there are far worse songs to stick with you but I know what you mean, it can get annoying.
Years later my dear children on a lark bought me a watch that played that same tune. That's okay...what goes around comes around...They'll have children of their own someday!
Love,
Sandy

Dear Sandy I had to laugh at your story, I love it. Maybe in the future, if they have children of their own, you can find a music box with that song.Sandy wrote: Years later my dear children on a lark bought me a watch that played that same tune. Me too!!! Jeanne, so nice to see you back! It's really hard to get a song out of your head...and why are they always the "annoying" songs that get stuck?

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
There's a song that seems to follow me around! I've come to associate it with a particular situation and it comes on the radio at very coincidental times. I was at a cottage belonging to my brother's wife's family two days ago and were playing a game with choosing music. I gave the person following me a letter and they have to pick a song by a band starting with that letter, and they picked the song! Weird. I like to think it means something.....

I like the way you think Jeanne! This "not so sweet" little Gramma want to be" will have her revenge some day!
Hiya Ang... I smiled when I read your post and then thought..."I don't know if I have ever actually heard the lyrics to this famous anthym." Here's it is for anybody interested... Bet you can spot the stanza that jumped right out at me.
XX Sandy
"God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen!
O lord God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their knavish tricks,
Confuse their politics,
On you our hopes we fix,
God save the Queen!
Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world ov'er
From every latent foe,
From the assasins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign!
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!"

Big smile here Sandy!
Often I do think the song means something to you, a personal meaning as in a dream. I don't think you should take the text literally. But that the contents of the text has a symbolic value.

I'm no royalist, yet every time I hear our national anthem (or would that be
Rule Brittania?) I get kind of, patriotic tears in my eyes.
Latest song stuck in my head...or more of a tune, is the theme from the film
Drei Hasselnusse fur Aschenbroetel! I'd put a youtube link but the computer's
having connection problems. Can't open any sites except this one!

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
That's the one Jeanne! It brings me so many happy memories. It's a Czech version of
Cinderella!
Sandy, Phil said when I told him that all the internet in the area wasn't working: "It's your midwayers?"
Thalia went to a friend's, not working. Mathi's friend told us their's wasn't working and the cyber café's too...
It occurs often than not! BUT, only my laptop seemed to work ONLY for the MB, hehe!
Good thing too...it's a bit of a headache restricting the amount of time the kid's ought to be on!
Love to you all, Pet xx

Oh I love it Pet!!! Well not that you are having service problems persai, .but that you are getting a little help from "above" in getting to where you need to be on the internet as well as in your parenting responsibilities. Hug those little "internetless" kids of yours for me OK? They've always been good at finding interesting things to do to occupy their time though haven't they?

I do when my blood sugar gets too low in the morning. Especially if I've had too much to drink the night before.

Re: Question about songs stuck in my head in the morning?
Ok, well I think I may be able to top everyone's story. Some of you may have heard this before so you can skip but for those who haven't here it goes. In my early twenties I worked in a bar and sometime during that period I got the song by the Beetles "Yellow Submarine" stuck in my head. For about 5 years, every day whenever I was not engaged in some activity that required my thoughts that song played over and over and over in my head. It was incessant to the point I actually thought my brain had short circuited. "We all live in the yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. We all live in ..... AHHHHHH. I seriously debated going and seeing someone about it but at the time I did not have health insurance so I just tried to ignore that my brain may have gone haywire.
Eventually the song stopped. I can not say for certain if there was a defining moment or if it just gradually stopped but I do know at some point I got it. Looking back on that period in my life I was very disillusioned. I was kind of in a hate phase. I pretty much hated everyone and everything including myself. And then it dawned on me, the song wasn't trying to drive me crazy but rather keep me sane. It was trying to remind me that we are all in the same boat just trying to get along and hating everyone for that is what was making me less than yellow/happy. Maybe if I would have gotten it sooner I would not have spent five years all disgruntled but I know for sure I now pay attention to the songs that get stuck. They can sure be helpful in their guidance.
Love,
Michelle

Holey Moley! Five years! I suppose it could have been worse Michelle, you could have had the song "And They Call It Puppy Love" stuck in your head for eons of time.
I must say though it is hard for me to imagine you, " disillutioned and in a hate phase." You're such a bright light now!

Yes Jeanne, I am very yellow now. Thanks for asking.
Hi Sandy, I think I gave a lot of people dirty looks during that time but not sure how many noticed since I lived in a big city at the time. Actually people still liked me and I really did not understand why. I guess I hid my hate well.
I call those my dark years but I am glad I made it through unscathed. And something good came out of it as well. I met the love of my life at that bar. So maybe not all bad after all.
Love,
Michelle
