Remembering Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver was one of my favorite poets. She did her last dance (the mortal coil shuffle) on January 17, 2019. Here's one brief poem...
The Summer Day — by Mary Oliver
"I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
Into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?"

Mary Oliver was one of the most beloved poets of our times. A writer who was dazzled by her daily experience of life, and dazzled the rest of us by telling about it in her poems and essays. She deliberately stayed out of the public eye and what follows is one of her rare interviews. Read on for a glimpse of the remarkable woman who once wrote: "When it's over, I want to say: all my life/I was a bride married to amazement./I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms."
Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it. -- Mary Oliver

Welles, I really admire the quote- her desire, her passion... all summed up so poetically in her natural response. Life is Poetry! She sounds like a spirited Woman. Eloquent works and beautiful insight! Thank you!

Thank you Welles! After reading Mary Oliver's words...I have made a pact with myself. I am going to find amazement everyday in something or someone....Maybe it will be a habit that will take and bless my life.

Thanks again Welles!
It was a pleasure reading the interview(found it easier to read than to listen to). A writer after my own heart, simple, straightforward, images to savor, thought provoking...Wonderful!
