Can the value of mystical experience be described briefly?

Post by Welles »

The answer is an emphatic yes. Read this excellent article. I was struck by the brevity and clarity of James' thoughts and realized that he had indeed experienced that of which he spoke.

Dear Welles,

I think there is a big difference between being a mystic and having an enlightenment experience. I had such, which lasted 24 hours, almost one year back. It was not the regular me at all for that period. So I am not sure he is describing an enlightenment experience.

Lovely article, Welles... I feel all peaceful after having just read it... :happy

I Personally feel that enlightenment can come to us in small increments with every moment lived fully and in appreciation with God centered awareness. But obviously from this article and the many discussions on this subject, sometimes, and often when a person least expects it, the most amazing thing can happen and he or she has an "enlightening experience." This can awe and even over awe an individual, making some nearly mental, as what occurred with my own mom many years ago.

I am wondering if because we all are so different one to another if enlightening experiences too sort of reflect that difference even to the extent of varieties of perceptions at this incredible time. It would be interesting to view the similarities and the differences. Actually this has probably been done in an old book called, "Cosmic Consciousness" which speaks of enlightening experiences of historic individuals over the centuries. We have it here sitting big as life on our shelf where its been for years but as of yet I haven't read it. Still, I have listened to George talk about this many times and it does seem there is a thread of sameness about the experiences. And between your experience, Geoff, and George's experiences many years ago I see similarities.

Well, I'm still waiting... ;) but some day, hopefully :finger: , I will join the "club." :sunflower:

love,
Sandy

Lao Tzu,

The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth…
How true!

The writing of Walt Whitman can only be meaningful to those who "know".

The mystical experience or enlightenment is relative to each individual and eternally evolving. I did like the bit about Flinging the Bull, though.

Here is what I was hoping for:
Richard wrote:The essence of every spiritually transforming experience is that it takes you out of what you believe yourself to be. It broadens and deepens your concept of yourself and of all of life.
From The Richard Messages, received by James Reid of the Sunshine coast in his magnificent boo, and soon to be e-book.
