Lynn,
Your rain found us! So lush and green around here I can't see between the trees! Did you send the mosquitoes too!
Sandy,
It makes me a little sad your dad doesn't plant anything anymore. Anticipating life renewing the cycle after a long winter is a balm for the spirit.
Ha! We haven't had a song posting in a long time! "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..." Well, I've got my song for the day!
Did you clothes dry?
The girls came over again yesterday!

I was just sitting on the couch with a huge smile on my face watching them play in the toy room with Aleah's old dollhouse. Someone else might have come into the room and been aghast! Toys were all over the floor knee high! The girls were giggling in the glory of their co-operative scenario. My thought was, "This is just how kids play! The chaos can be cleared when they're done... and the memories will go into Grandma's Precious Moments Book. Later Tiny asked if she could have a little TV time. It had been raining all day. I agreed, but reminded her we needed to have snack and clean up the toy room first. While Nova and I finished snack and took care of the dishes, Tiny ran downstairs. By the time we arrived, three-quarters of the room was sparkling clean. She'd put things back where they belonged and was carefully arranging the pillows on the closet 'princess bed'! I was still reveling in the wonder of that, while making bunnies out of Play Doh, Nova smiled broadly at me and said, "I love you Grammy!"

Don't think I could have asked for anything nicer from that wonderful little two-year-old.
The deer saga continues! While talking outside with Rachel she was telling me how an animal had come into their backyard flower garden and snipped off the poppies and lilies that were just about to bloom. She thought it must have been a deer, although they've never had problems before. Just then Tiny said, "Well, there's a deer right there!!!" We looked up, and sure enough a doe walked right out of the woods toward us just like she owned the place. There were four people and three dogs in the yard and it didn't even phase her! Stopping about fifteen feet away staring at us, I knew she was contemplating, "Hmmm, now how am I going to get to the salad bar?" My dog just walked slowly away, went and lay in the sun in the driveway not surprised in the least with our visitor. Rachel's two little puggles stood there while we all stared at each other for a minute, when the female finally realized, "Hey! You're not supposed to be here!" They were nose to nose and she started growling. The deer unfazed, half heartedly lurched at the dog. Rachel called the dogs as she and Tiny took a few steps toward their car. I picked up Nova, but stood my ground ready to give that deer a piece of my mind! Wagging a finger at her I said, "No! You don't get any more of my flowers! There's plenty for you to eat in the woods!
The deer was about ten feet away from me continuing to stare. I could tell she wasn't rattled or intimidated what so ever. Reminded me of talking to my kids as teens. They knew they were smarter, bigger and faster than me, …. but...there... might... be... consequences if they didn't listen. She decided to concede,... this time. Walking slowly to the edge of the woods twenty feet away, she ripped some leaves off Dave's red maple, turned facing toward us and began stripping the leaves off some small saplings, not leaving that spot for ten minutes.
Rachel couldn't believe that deer had no fear! Of course she captured the whole thing on her phone. I commented, "I told you she was bold!" As soon as they left I raced inside to get my stinky soap and cheese grater. Mumbling to myself the whole time I grated the soap all around the plants the deer liked best. I didn't feel one bit generous and giving.
Today is a radiant, sunny, breezy day... going out to put up more fencing around the gardens.
Hope you all are basking in the glory of your day... or night, whatever the case may be!
Kim
